It year 2170, 16 years after Earth tried to take over Pandora. The Omaticaya have relocated to a new 'Hometree' not are from the original site and the Tree of Souls. The live there trying to heal the earth from the damage it took from the humans.
The RDA corporation tried mining Pandora, a lush, Earth-like moon of the planet Polyphemus, in the Alpha Centauri system. Parker Selfridge the administrator, employed former marines had mercenaries to provide security. The humans aimed to exploit Pandora’s reserves of a valuable mineral called unobtanium. But failed when one of there own Jake Sully a paraplegic former marine,
and Avatar fought back and saved the Na'vi and Pandora. As the humans attack, the Na'vi fight back fiercely but suffer heavy casualties, among them Tsu'Tey and Trudy a scientist and Avatar. As the Na'vi are on the verge of defeat, the Pandoran wildlife suddenly attacks the humans, overwhelming them. Neytiri interprets this as Eywa answering Jake's prayer.
The humans are expelled from Pandora, while Jake and a select few remain. Jake has become the new now the Omaticaya leader after the death of Tsu'Tey. Jake's soul like a very select few other humans was successfully transplanted by Eywa into there Na'vi avatar. Humans are allowed to return to Pandora under a treaty of peace and continue to study Pandora and the Na'vi.
Earth has become a heavily polluted wasteland and suffered catastrophic damage from accelerated climate change and either nuclear accidents or limited 'brushfire' nuclear wars.
Humans cannot breathe Pandora’s atmosphere. In order to move about Pandora, human scientists have genetically engineered human-Na’vi hybrids called avatars, which are controlled by genetically matched human operators. Some are luck enough to be successfully transplanted by Eywa into there Na'vi Avatar if they so wish it and are granted it by the Na'vi.
Pandora is inhabited by the Na’vi, a paleolithic species of sapient humanoids with feline characteristics. Physically stronger and several feet taller than humans, the blue-skinned indigenes live in harmony with Nature and worship a mother goddess called Eywa. The Tree of Souls, is the center of Na'vi religion and culture; its destruction would leave the Na'vi too demoralized to continue resisting.
